Why a specific job didn't show up in my scanner? Checklist

Currently we often may see that some job that exist on Upwork didn't appear in scanner and GigRadar didn;t bid on this job. But why? I've set up scanner and I want to get all the jobs in there so there will be no need to bidding manually. Is it sounds like you? That's why we created this check list for you.

What to check first?

Let start with checking our search query. If it's short like PowerBI* it's easy to check. But if we have something like that?

Not that easy, hah? and sometimes it can be longer than that!

So let say we have a job

To check if we have correct keywords in search query.
to check it we may copy the title of the job and past it directly in search query.

if the job appears in the Example jobs, then the problem in your search query.
if we use PowerBI* search query we will not see this job because there is nowhere in job title or job description mentioned "PowerBI" without space between the words.

Note: sometimes it may not appear because of your additional filters so if the job do not appear at the end we'll return to our search query.

Checking filters

So if we have such a search query and we past our title of job in a search query directly and we don't see such a job, then we need to check our filters.

Where should we start?

Job filters

Let's check our rates. Is it falls within our price filters?

Not, really. It's 45$ tops. Do we want to lower the bar to 45$? It's up yo you. But for the purpose of test, we'll do that.
So we change our Hourly rate to 45$.

Still, no job in Example jobs?

Do we have Connects Price filter?

In this case no, but you'd better check it if you have.

Here we can find the connects price for the job.

Do you have any custom settings on Project Duration or Hourly Workload?

Nope, all checked. But if youo have some unchecked, please check if it fits your job.

Any filters in Job Posting Questions? or Description Size?

No, then we move further.

Client filters

Let's start with Client Location here. For this test we have such settings.

What we see in Job Post?

Hm, client is from Australia. Okay, let's add this country to our filter, as the job is quite good.
Did the job appear in our Example jobs?

Nope, still something is off.

Client rating

4 stars minimum, no clients without feedback and Payment should be verified.
Let's check what we have in job post.

5 stars, 8 feedbacks already and Payment method is verified. So we're good here.

No mismatch.

Hire Rate

1000$ minimum of spent on Upwork, Client Hire Rate - Mid, High, Max, and Average Hourly Rate paid should be not lower than 26$.

What's in the job post?

30k$ spent on Upwork, 100% hire rate (pretty high!), and Average Hourly Rate Paid 12$.

Hm, should we lower our Average Hourly Rate Paid? to get such jobs in scanner, yes. But does it fit your ICP? It's up to you.
But we'll change it to 12$ to see this job in the end.

Client Profile

Oh! No Unspecified chosen? You may loose a lot of opportunities due to this tag not chosen in your Client Company Size filter. Leave this field empty or choose Unspecified with other tags as a lot of clients do not specify this setting on Upwork.

Vendor Settings

Hm, something is clearly off. Where is my Unspecified in Talent Preference? Ah! I mixed it up with "Only Freelancers" tag. Let's delete "Only Freelancers" tag and add "Unspecified".

Let's double check it this job is what I'm looking for. Let's check the date whe it was published and compare with job post on Upwork.

4 hours ago. And on Upwork?

Not a perfect match, but the description and Client total spent are the same so this is our job post we were looking for.

Let's return our search query in place and check if we still see this opportunity in our Example Jobs.

But sometimes it's not there.

Let's check what we have here

Nothing extra, but you may have turned on "Only Search Titles"

Then we should clearly check if our job post has some of our keywords from Search query in Title.
It's there. "Power BI", but in your case it may be absent in Job title. There you need to decide whether to add more keywords in search query to get those type of jobs in your scanner, or turn off Search by titles only.

But we have the phrase in Job Title and the opportunity is not there. Where to look next?

In Excluded keywords.

First, try to delete all of them and check if job appears.
If yes, then we need to identify which excluded keyword is guilty!

Try to delete them by sections and check if the job appears.
Once it appears in your Example Jobs list, then in this section is that keyword that excluded this job from your scanner.
Should you remove it? It's up to you.
