Before creating a scanner in GigRadar, it’s essential to determine the key parameters such as the specific services, technologies, or tasks, that your scanner must target. This step is crucial to set up your scanner correctly using the right filters, so that it is able to search for the most relevant job posts.

When deciding the key parameters for your scanner, you must take into account the job posts that you’ve previously worked on or you can obtain this information from a few ideal job postings on Upwork.

📌 Important: If you are new to Upwork, it's advisable to browse through several job postings that align with your skills. You can incorporate the parameters mentioned in the job posts such as the keywords in the job title and description, categories, and skills to create an ideal customer profile. This further can be used as criteria to build your scanners effectively.

Before you begin creating your scanners, make sure to consider the following:

  1. List the technology names, services, tasks, and tools that you work with or don’t want to work with. Additionally, consider including any variations or alternatives for these terms. For example, if it's a "logo design", we could further break it down into "product logo design", "company logo design", "company branding", etc.

  2. List the industries that you work with or don’t want to work with. Include any words that relate to this industry or are often used by clients. For example, the designer service could be specific to the health and fitness industry and IT industry.

  3. Choose the work categories that best match your skill set. For example, Design and Creative and IT & Networking may be appropriate for your work profile. To view the list of categories on Upwork, see Job Categories and Descriptions – Upwork Customer Service & Support on Upwork Help.

  4. Know the budget preferences for the project. For example, you may want to only target jobs that have an hourly rate of $40 and above or work for projects that have a fixed price budget that is above a certain value.

  5. Make note of your preferences for the project duration.

  6. List the countries you want to work with or don’t want to work with. For example, you may want to target only non-US jobs.

  7. Other details such as the Client Min Average Feedback, Hire Rate Stats, etc, which you can get from an ideal client job posting on Upwork.

📌 Important: GigRadar search is not synonym-based at this time and will not search for every possible variation of a keyword. The search works only based on the keywords that have been added to the search string. Therefore, it is important to prepare in advance or at least understand what keywords clients may use such as synonyms and misspelled words.

Example: The below are possible variations for React Native job posts:

React Native > React Native, reactnative, RN

Example: The below are possible variations for .NET job posts:

.Net > "ASP.NET", .NET, .NET Core, Dot Net, .NET Framework

Example: The below are possible variations for advertising related job posts:

ads > ad, ads, advertasing, adwords, ad words, campaign, compain, ppc, "pay-per-click"

Example: The below are possible variations for LMS or learning related job posts:

eLearning > school, online course, online courses, student, ed-tech, ed tech, edtech, e-learning, LMS, elearning, e learning, learning app, educational app, educational project, education project, learning management, for learning, for study, Online learning, Internet-Based Learning, Web-Based Learning, Online Education, Blended Learning, Hybrid Learning, Asynchronous Learning, Self-Paced Learning, Personalized Learning, Adaptive Learning, Virtual Classroom, Learning Management System, LMS, Online Tutoring , Digital Credentials, Online Certifications, Online Assessments

👉🏻 Next up: After you have identified the key parameters for your scanner, you are ready to create new scanners and add filters to them.
