Signs of a Scam Job Post:
You might see a normal-looking job post on Upwork, like "Node.js developer" with a relevant description. As usual, you or GigRadar will apply for this job.
Within an hour, the job title changes from "Node.js developer" to something like:
"Document typing"
"Data entry"
"Urgent typist"
"Typing and writing"
Or similar topics related to writing.
The description changes to:
💬 "Hello, we need a freelancer for simple typing tasks and retyping documents. If you're interested, please apply. Thank you."
Sometimes, it might include a link to Telegram.
Afterward, you’ll get a reply with an offer to visit a suspicious link.
What should you do?
❗️ Report these jobs as spam on Upwork. Your connects spent on these jobs will be returned by Upwork once the post is deleted.
How can you filter scam job posts?
Scam job postings usually come from new accounts with $0 spent. The payment method might be verified.
You can filter out these scams by setting Client Total Spent to $1+. You can also use the "Payment Verified" option to avoid new client accounts.
💡 But keep in mind, filtering out new client accounts might mean missing out on real leads from new Upwork users.
