You choose who a scanner bids as in its Auto Bidder settings. Each scanner can be set separately, so some can bid via your agency and others as a freelancer.
Step by step
Open the scanner and go to the Auto Bidder tab.
Under Apply as, select Apply as freelancer.
Pick the team and the freelancer. Only freelancers set up in Profiles are listed.
Check the status line under the freelancer picker (see below).
Save the scanner.
What the status line means
Status | What it means | What to do |
Connected. (green) | The freelancer can bid from their own account | Nothing, you're ready |
This freelancer has no connection. | Their Upwork account isn't connected yet | Click Connect in Profiles |
This freelancer's connection needs attention. | Upwork ended the authorization (expired or revoked) | Click Fix in Profiles, then Reconnect |
Out of Connects: this freelancer cannot bid. | The connection works but the Connects balance is 0 | Top up Connects on Upwork |
The status line also shows the freelancer's current Connects balance.
Switching back to the agency
Select Apply as agency on the same tab and save. Proposals go out from the agency exactly as before, and there is nothing to connect.
Good to know
A scanner set to Apply as freelancer only ever bids through that freelancer's account. If the connection stops working, bids are not sent through the agency instead. They wait until the connection is fixed.
On the Scanners list you can see at a glance which scanners bid "as Freelancer" and which bid "via Agency".You choose who a scanner bids as in its Auto Bidder settings. Each scanner can be set separately, so some can bid via your agency and others as a freelancer.
