The following steps provide the tasks that you will need to complete to set up your first scanner:

  1. Log in to your GigRadar.io account.

  2. From the top menu, click the Scanners tab.

  3. From the My Scanners pane on the left, click New scanner.

  4. In the main search field, enter the keywords that you want to use to find jobs. Make sure to format the keywords according to the platform's syntax. For more information about search syntax, see GigRadar Search Syntax: Query Operators for Optimized Job Searches.

๐Ÿ“Œ Important: You must include all variations of keywords such as possible spellings with spaces, variations with spaces, and additional characters. GigRadar search is not synonym-based at this time and will not search for every possible variation of a keyword. Hence, you must add them manually to the search field.

Note: When adding keywords, remember the importance of properly segmenting your scanners to ensure they target the most relevant jobs for you. Ensure each scanner focuses solely on specific keywords related to a project. Additionally, prioritize scanners with multiple search terms over those with single search terms. For more information about prioritizing your scanners, see ๐Ÿ” Scanner Prioritization.

Example:

If you work with react node technologies across different projects rather than in a single project, itโ€™s advisable to create separate scanners for each project. This approach ensures a more focused scope for the scanner, allowing for better fine-tuning and adjustments if needed.

For example, you can create three scanners:

  • 1st scanner targeting both React and Node jobs:

    Scanner name: React + Node

    Key query: (react*) (node*)

  • 2nd scanner targeting only react jobs:

    Scanner name: React

    Key query: (react*)

  • 3rd scanner targeting only node jobs:

    Scanner name: Node
    โ€‹Key query: (node*)

The same logic applies to scanners oriented towards various industries, technologies, or services. First, scanners with multiple search terms are created and placed at the top, namely technology/service + industry is placed at top priority, and then single technology search terms are placed later. For more information about prioritizing you scanners, see ๐Ÿ” Scanner Prioritization. For example:

  • 1st scanner:

Scanner name: React + Real Estate Scanner:

Key query: (react*) (PropTech | "property management" | "prop tech" | "property tech" | "property maintenance" | RealEstate | "Real Estate")

  • 2nd scanner:

    Scanner name: React Scanner

    Key query: (react*)

6. Click the Preview Results tab to preview the results of the scannerโ€™s performance.
Check each job and pick out the keywords from the irrelevant jobs. GigRadar recommends that go through at least 3-5 pages of Preview Results.

7. After identifying irrelevant job postings in the Preview Results and noting down the associated keywords, you can utilize the Advanced Search Options filter to exclude those specific keywords or parameters you've identified during the preview process. To learn how to use filters and excludes, see โŒ› Using Filtering and Excludes.

8. Click Save to save your settings for the scanner.

โœ… Notes:

  • Gigradar only sends bids for new jobs that are posted after you have enabled Auto Bidding for your scanner.

  • Bid submission typically happens within 10-15 minutes from when the job is posted on Upwork and added to your scanner.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Next up: Since this is a new scanner, make sure to follow all the steps provided in the Getting Started guide.
